History

Our family moved to Mountain House in October of 2004 on the recommendation of my brother Jeff and his brother in-law Shane, both of whom had purchased homes here the year before. Prior to that I lived in Livermore for 9 years.

Running for the board

My family has committed to living in Mountain House for the next 20 years. Mountain House planners have envisioned a bold plan for the community. I want to make sure that the CSD, in its policy decisions, stays on a course that allows that vision to happen. What's missing now is real binding representation from the people who live here.

I have a unique perspective on the needs of both owners and renters in our community. I am also familiar with the builders and their homes.

Platform

Facilitate better communication

There is a strong need to foster better communication between the CSD and the residents it serves. Providing only a couple of days notice for important community meetings is unacceptable. These things should be scheduled far in advance with plenty of notice so that residents can plan to attend if they want. I will encourage the CSD to leverage the Internet among other mediums to better communicate with the people who live here.

Specific Solutions

  • Hold quarterly event meetings to allow the residents to have input into the activities that the CSD will support.
  • Leverage the Internet by publishing public documents on the CSD website
  • Promote partnerships with local businesses and organizations to get out the word about CSD events
  • Set up a calender for community meetings and primary events. I see no practical reason why CSD run events such as community meetings, parades, festivals, and such cannot be publicized in a yearly scheduled.

Representation

I want to make sure that the residents of Mountain House have a final say on policies set by the CSD. Right now those policy directives come from the San Joaquin Board of directors, 5 people who do not live here. Not only do I live here, but I also represent owners and tenants who have an interest in the success of Mountain House.

Specific Solutions

  • Create a volunteer ad-hoc committee to oversee CC&R enforcement.

Other Concerns

  • I want to make sure The CSD administration understands how important safety is to this community. I feel safe living here, but want to impress upon the powers that be that safety needs to be the #1 concern of the CSD.
    • Emphasis on prompt graffiti abatement.
    • More support for neighborhood watch programs.
    • Explore a more aggressive response to vacant neglected homes.
  • I want to make sure the CSD is making good use of our tax money by doing a thorough review of the budget.
  • I am a strong advocate for Mountain house having a public pool. The master plan calls for three, so I will want to make sure one is in the works as soon it is economically feasible.
  • I want to ensure that the developers do not have an undue influence in the CSD's policy making.
  • The CSD collects tax revenue specifically allocated for parks and recreation purposes. I want to create a working group of citizens to advise the board on how they want that money spent. The CSD has already made progress in this direction. I would like to formalize the process.
  • Similarly the CSD is responsible for CC&R enforcement. I would like to see another volunteer group created to deal with violation disputes.
  • I want to explore the possibility of modifying the master plan to include a dog park.
  • Lastly I want true oversight. The current board has too much on its plate dealing with county issues to really dig into Mountain House issues that merit attention. Candidates to the new board need to be willing to put in the time to understand the issues we face so they can make informed policy decisions.

My Political Affiliation

I have been registered as a Republican and a Democrat in times past. Right now I am so disappointed with both parties that I will likely register as an independent.

What I can say is that I am a fiscal conservative with moderate to liberal social views. I am for a balanced budget, and sound fiscal planning so that Mountain House never finds itself under a pile of debt. I am a strong believer in taking personal responsibility for ones action.

I am also not beholden to or connected to any developer or outside influence. I sincerely want Mountain House to be successful, and I think putting in the time to help that happen is in my family's and the community's best interest.
